"Ay, Ay, A.I." is the second segment of the third episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the sixty-fourth episode overall. It is paired with "Evil Upheaval" and premiered on Disney Channel on September 21, 2024.[1] This episode has been released early on September 18, 2024 on Disney+.
When Gretel and Bailey hear that the crossing guard Mertha is going to be replaced by an advanced AI crossing guard, they challenge the mayor which of the two is better at helping get people across the street. Meanwhile, Kevin starts a pet-sitting service, with his first client having him take care of a herd of goats.
Plot[]
While crosing the street one day, Gretel and Bailey learn that Mertha is going to be replaced as their crossing guard, much to their dismay. They confront Mayor Meyer about this, who introduces them to ACE, an advanced automated crossing guard. Still hesitant to see their favorite crossing guard lose her job, Gretel challenges Mertha and ACE to a street crossing competition. Meanwhile, Kevin learns that he will be looking after goats as the first job of his newly-launched pet-sitting service. He initially has a difficult time keeping them in line, but upon rescuing one of the goats from falling off a cliff, he gains their respect.
The competition is held in the middle of town, with ACE winning by a landslide. However, when Meyer prepares to give Myrtle some paperwork regarding the termination of her employment, ACE prevents everyone from crossing the street, claiming that there is no room for human error. Hamster and Gretel begin to battle ACE, only to find that he can repair himself whenever they attack. Gretel contacts Kevin, who has now mastered leading the goats. He too is initially puzzled as to how ACE will be defeated, but upon seeing the goats eat the wires inside ACE's arms, he uses this to his advantage. While Hamster and Gretel defeat ACE, Mertha leads the citizens to safety, inadvertently causing her score to surpass ACE's score; Meyer then declares Mertha the winner of the competition.
