You guys realize this Bayou Barb lady is just made up for the tourists, right? Even I get that, and I'm a literal child!

"Bayou Barb" is the first segment of the twenty-sixth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the fiftieth episode overall. It is paired with "The Great Pillow War" and premiered on Disney Channel on October 28, 2023.[2]

During a vacation at a bayou-side town, Kevin and Gretel go on investigation in the swamps to prove to their parents that the legend of Bayou Barb isn't real.

Plot[]

During a family outing to a bayou diner, Dave tells Kevin and Gretel the legend of Bayou Barb, a woman who fused with waffle irons and a tree laced with toxic waste after losing control while driving on a stormy night. Kevin and Gretel believe this is merely a hoax designed to attract tourists and attempt to prove it by following a lead from a bayou employee. Hamster leads the two down a trail of maple syrup, only for them to find that it originates from the employee, who tells them she is aiding the town in keeping the legend alive. After the encounter, however, Kevin, Hamster, and Gretel run into what they believe is someone pretending to be Bayou Barb before eventually realizing that the legend is true after all.

After a battle involving Bayou Barb continually throwing waffles at them, Kevin, Hamster, and Gretel convince Bayou Barb to expose her existence to the town and return to her diner job. Bayou Barb accepts this proposal and enjoys copious amounts of fame. Dave and Carolina then prepare to take Kevin and Gretel to Swampopolis, an amusement park they stated they wanted to go to originally, only for a townsperson to direct them toward a "half man, half goat, half lawnmower" legend.

News report[]

Sharonica Brill: I'm local reporter Sharonica Brill. What are your plans for the future, Barb?
Bayou Barb: Ah, nothing fancy. I just want to get back to running my diner and also cash in on my fame. Who wants a Bayou Barb premium cotton tee?

Memorable quotes[]

Gretel: (sniffs) Wait! Do you guys smell what I'm smelling?
Hamster: It wasn't me.
Gretel: So it is all a scam.
Mary: Who's to say? But it gives us a sense of community and more importantly, it keeps us swimmin' in that sweet tourist moolah!
Gretel: You must miss your diner.
Bayou Barb: Like a rat misses sewage.
Hamster: Uh...
Kevin and Gretel: Ugh!
Hamster: ...interesting comparison.
