Bolgylvania on the globe.

Bolgylvania is an Eastern European country that appears in certain episodes of Hamster & Gretel. It is a new, small nation that not many have heard about, which signature flag color appears to be purple, and signature vegetable appears to be the chive. Bolgylvania excels in combat weaponry, which makes up for their rather lacking video game industry.

Tina is a Bolgylvanian citizen, and a spy that works for the Bolgylvanian government. In the episodes she appears in and Bolgylvania had been mentioned, the government wishes to expand their poor video game industry, and Tina had been assigned missions to do so through illicit means, which mostly includes abducting people and bringing them back to her home country.

BolgylvanianFlag

The flag of Bolgylvania.

It is unknown when exactly Bolgylvania was founded, but it has to be fairly recent, given that Gretel hadn't heard of it before, similar expressions of confusion from Roman and Hiromi, as well as Tina's insistence that the nation is new (a statement also assessed in the song Bolgylvanian Force). Despite the size and recency of Bolgylvania, its citizens appear to be very prideful of their nation.

The Bolgylvanian government has access to a variety of high-tech weaponry, which includes power gauntlets, rocket boots, and backpacks that can sprout mechanical clawed tentacles. They can also turn animal pets into combat cyborgs, if Tina's pet Gerbil indicates anything. The Bolgylvanian government also runs a space program in which participants are sent into space and reside in a Bolgylvania-made space station (which appears to be small enough to resemble an escape pod). Tina's best friend, Grobla, had partaken in such space program.

Missions from the Bolgylvanian government appear to be taken very seriously: failing to complete a mission is seen as a nation-wide scandal, and anyone that dares to fail a mission faces demotion, gets pelted by chives thrown by other citizens, and are taken into custody, according to Bolgylvanian custom. Sometimes, these grounded spies will be given a second chance with a new mission to regain their honor.

Despite Tina's claims that the Bolgylvanian video game industry is "burgeoning", it is still subpar compared to most of the world. Bolgylvania does not know how to develop video games well, as their first attempt at a video game, Scorching Chives, is rather boring: thus, Tina's first mission shown in Hamster & Gretel involved kidnapping a more famed video game designer, Roman Carter, so the government could force him to create something better for the nation. The video game testers in Bolgylvania are not much better, as shown with the nation's second attempt at a video game, Jellyfish Realtor, resulting in Tina's second mission to redeem herself involving her and Grobla luring four teenagers and bringing them to Bolgylvania as permanent playtesters (which they attempt to accomplish by disguising themselves as Wallace). Bolgylvania does not seem to have an understanding to more physical arcade games, either, given Tina's confusion at the popularity of claw machines, and her acknowledgement of the claws inside the cabinets being decommissioned shipping arms used to train dock workers instead.

Smoothies are available in Bolgylvania as well, but the soft drink is there referred to as a "fruit massacre", as fruit is being massacred to create the drink.

Trivia[]

  • Much like Drusselstein from Phineas and Ferb, Bolgylvania is a fictional country based on Eastern Europe. Unlike Drusselstein, which appears to be a parody of a rural, old-fashioned East Germany, Bolgylvania appears to be a parody of Russia.
