Cheerleaders robbing banks? That's crazy!

Kevin Grant-Gomez

"Cheer Cheer Bang Bang" is the first segment of the fourth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the seventh episode overall. It is paired with "La Ballad of La Cebolla" and premiered on Disney Channel on August 27, 2022.[1] On August 17, 2022, this episode was released early on Disney+.

When noticing that a string of bank robberies are seemingly carried out by cheerleaders from their school, Kevin enlists Fred to go undercover at the cheerleader tryouts to investigate.

Plot

A series of bank robberies led by cheerleeders leaves Kevin and Fred baffled, prompting an investigation. They decide that Fred will go undercover as a cheerleader to find out what all of this means. However, Fred lacks the peppiness to through with the plan, so Hamster and Gretel attempt to train her. When that fails, Gretel notices that Fred watches the anime Yuko Cheerleading Warrior Attack 7 and suggests that she pretend to be peppy, which she does, allowing her to make the team.

After some questioning, Gretel calls Fred into the locker rooms, where they attempt to search through the lockers; they then witness the coach using a hypnotic whistle on the cheerleaders, revealing her to be the culprit. Fred and Gretel discover that a cheer-like rhythm will counteract the effects of the whistle, prompting Fred to reluctantly perform a catchy dance number, freeing everyone from their mind control. Fred, Hamster, and Gretel then defeat the coach, after which Fred realizes that cheerleaders are cooler than she initially thought (as she learns earlier that they watch Yuko Cheerleading Warrior Attack 7 as well).

Super Attack

After Fred and Gretel agree that Fred can just pretend to smile at the cheerleading auditions, they high-five
Fred: OW!
Gretel: Sorry, I gave you a little Super Slap there.
The words "Super Slap!" appear in colorful letters
Gretel: I have no idea where these come from.
Kevin: I was-I was with Hiromi and there were so many cheerleading outfits, and anyway, now you're on the school paper. 'Kay, bye! (runs off)
Fred: Somebody's looking for a Super Slap!
The camera zooms out, revealing the words "Super Slap!" Gretel flies in
Gretel: Oops! Sorry, I left these here earlier.
Gretel takes the words and leaves

News report

Veronica Hill: This is the sixth bank robbery in so many days, which raises many questions such as "Would banks be robbed less if they didn't keep so much money in them?"

Memorable quotes

Gretel: How are you beating me?
Hamster: And I don't even have opposeable thumbs.
Kevin: I'm gonna go and buy you an outfit for your tryout. F-R-E―
Fred: Do not spell out my name!
Hiromi: (while examining Fed's cheerleading uniform) The size looks right, but this style is so not Fred.
Kevin: I know, but she has to go undercover―
Hiromi: Undercover? Why?
Kevin: Uh, she's... (stutters) Doing a paper―story for a paper, s-school paper.
Hiromi: Really? I'm the editor. How come I don't know?
Kevin: It's deep undercover. D-d-don't tell anyone―especially Fred!
Hiromi: Her secret's safe... from her... with me.
After Fred's audition.
Coach Haggerty: You'll be perfect! You think you can learn a super-complicated routine for the pep rally by tomorrow afternoon?
Fred: "Learn a super-complicated routine for the pep rally by tomorrow afternoon" is my middle name.
Fred: Did you find anything?
Gretel: No. Did you?
Fred: Nothing. I talked with all of them and learned some horrifying things about this school. Don't eat the fish sticks.
Hamster: Brutal.
Fred: I keep forgetting that he can talk.
Naya: So the coach was hypnotizing us to rob banks?
Fred: Yep.
Naya: And you were spying on us to find this out?
Fred: That's right.
Naya: And you apparently had pants that looked like bare legs under your cheerleader outfit but over your regular clothes?!
Fred: Also correct.
Naya: I have no further questions.
