“ | Hmm... It's so quiet, and there's an absence of dumb energy in the house. Oh, no! CHURROOOOOOOOOOOO! | ” |
— Hamster |
"Churro's Day Out" is the second segment of the twentieth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the thirty-ninth episode overall. It is paired with "Let's Sea What You've Got" and premiered on Disney Channel on June 24, 2023.[1][2]
While the Grant-Gomezes are taking a family portrait at a high class photographer, Hamster accidentally lets Churro escape the house, and has to find him and return him home.
Plot[]
Dave overdramatically bids goodbye to Churro as the Grant-Gomez family leaves the house to have their family portrait taken by Raúl, a man who has many strict rules regarding how pictures are taken, including prohibiting pets from joining the photographs. This leaves Hamster free to enjoy himself, only for Churro to escape when Hamster opens the door to receive a pizza he ordered. When he eventually realizes that Churro is gone, Hamster enlists the help of Fred to locate him via a tracking device Dave installed in his collar. However, each time the rodent comes close to catching the dog, he manages to escape once again.
As Hamster is on the verge of giving up, Fred suggests that he think about what Churro wants more than anything else. Hamster then finds Churro outside of the studio at which the Grant-Gomezes are having their picture taken and quickly realizes that Churro desires to be in the photo. Hamster admits that he wishes for the same and the two pets enter the studio, with Raúl being moved by Carolina declaring that they are part of the family.

Background information[]
Trivia[]
- This is the second episode of the series not to feature a villain.
- This is third episode where Gretel doesn’t appear in her superhero suit entirely.
Allusions[]
- The dress - One of the rules on Raúl's list says "215. Do Not Argue with Me About The Color of that Dress. It is White and Gold", a reference to the viral photo of a dress back in 2015, where people would argue if the dress is white/gold or black/blue.
- Ten Commandments - One rule in Raúl's list says "247. Thou Shalt Not Speak in Old English". The usage of "Thou shalt not..." is similar to the way the Commandments in the Bible are worded.
- Ferris Bueller's Day Off - The scene where Hamster is yelling Churro's name out loud and then cuts to shots of the city and other buildings, can be a reference to the famous scene in Ferris Bueller where different shots of New York buildings are shown during Cameron's yell.
- Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey - Hamster tells Fred a code called "Homeward Bound". This might be a reference to the title of the 1993 movie in which it shows a similar instance of a dog trying to find their way back home.
- Washington Crossing the Delaware - When Churro spots the Grant-Gomezes at the photography studio, their poses and the boat they are standing in resemble this famous Revolutionary War-era painting that depicts future U.S. president George Washington leading a surprise attack on the British.
