“ | We don't want to start a panic, so I figured Hamster and Gretel could look for Chad while you take to your duties. | ” |
"Fred of State" is the second segment of the twelfth episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the eighty-first episode overall. It is paired with "Last Train to Dullsville" and premiered on Disney Channel on January 12, 2025.[2]
When student body president Chad Goldenboy disappears all of a sudden, Fred gets to fill in for Chad. As Fred assumes Chad's position to improve the school library, Kevin enlists Hamster and Gretel to find out what happened to Chad.
Plot[]
One morning, school president Chad Goldenboy is addressing the students of Eastside High when he is suddenly kidnapped. This leads to Fred, the vice president, taking over Chad's role, which she sees as an opportunity to bring forth some much-needed improvements to the school's library. In order to move forward with her plans, however, she reluctantly agrees to Principal Funderberk's request to support the movement to reassign Taco Tuesday to Taco Wednesday, due to his distaste of alliteration. Kevin and Fred spend the rest of the afternoon securing votes while Hamster and Gretel investigate Chad's disappearance.
With the votes tallied, Kevin and Fred turn their attention to Pamela Ryan for the final vote needed to make Taco Wednesday a reality. However, Pamela refuses, wishing for tacos to continue being served on Tuesdays; she subsequently reveals that she was the one behind Chad's disappearance, having used a Bolgylvanian robotic spider to commit such an act undetected. Hamster and Gretel then arrive and break Pamela's glasses, which control the spider, only for the spider to engage in destruction. Unable to stop the spider, the teenagers turn to the manual, with Fred deducing that the spider can be defeated if they disable its forward controls, which they achieve by throwing tacos at it. After the spider's defeat, Pamela agrees to vote for Taco Wednesday under the condition that Fred give Pamela a full pardon for her actions. The next day, Chad, having resumed his position, announces that Taco Wednesday will now be Waffle Wednesday as Fred exhausted the school's supply of tacos, much to Principal Funderberk's chagrin.

Trivia[]
- The title of this episode is a pun on the term "head of state", which is the public representation of a leader in a sovereign state.
- This appears as a sequel or parallel to the episode "President Fred"; as such, both episodes feature a title placing Fred in a position of power.
Continuity[]
- After Fred didn't win the class president election from President Fred, she became Chad's vice president.
- When Fred mentions that Hamster and Gretel's presence at Eastside High often leads to destruction, clips from "I Was a Teenage Mad Scientist," "Stress Brawl," "The Search for Super Guy," and "Friday Night Fright" are shown.
- Principal Funderberk becomes overly protective of the school's trophy case when Kevin gets near it, likely because of the events from "I Was a Teenage Mad Scientist".
- Pamela mentions Kevin asking her on a fake date ("Stress Brawl").
