“ | Today's winners will appear in a future segment of Dr. Aster's show. And I intend on being one of them. | ” |
"Gentlemen Prefer Fronds" is the first segment of the fifteenth episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the eighty-sixth episode overall. It is paired with "Sock It To Me, Bailey!" and premiered on Disney Channel on February 2, 2025.[2]
Gretel, Bailey, and Nordle enter a plant contest, with the winner getting to guest star in Garden Hunter with Dr. Archie Aster. Nordle desperately wants to win with his orchid, but his cheating involving evil potions causes more trouble than it's worth.
Plot[]
Eastside Elementary School is hosting a horticulture competition for the botany club, with Nordle determined to win in order to receive the grand prize of sharing the spotlight with the eponymous host of his favorite television show, Garden Hunter with Dr. Archie Aster. However, Kevin, Gretel, and Bailey suspect that Nordle has used his father's chemicals to enhance his plants, leaving him to use a lone orchid as his entry. Upon noticing that some of the other students have entered much larger orchids than his, Nordle decides to use his father's growth serum to enhance his. Unbeknownst to Nordle, the remaining plants that he and Tobor disposed of in a nearby trash can begin to grow at an alarming rate.
While the competition is underway, Aster, who is judging the competition, prepares to select the winner, only for Nordle's plant–which Aster identifies as Vamperic Lilac Vines–to engulf the gym and lift it into the air. After Kevin notifies Gretel, she and Hamster attempt to sneak away undetected to save the students. When Nordle admits that the plants are his, Aster hypothesizes that cutting off the vines' moisture and sunlight may stop it, which Hamster and Gretel achieve. However, this leaves the students in peril, as the vines no longer have the strength to hold up the gym. Aster then remembers that he defeated a similar vine by giving it an electric shock using two eels, but because Hamster and Gretel are unable to retrieve eels while preventing the gym from falling to the ground, Tobor sacrifices himself by using his own power to defeat the vine.
Once the students have been brought to safety, Aster declares that everyone–with the exception of Nordle due to his actions–is a winner due to surviving the vines' wrath. Moments later, Nordle vows to never use his father's evil science again.
