“ | What's the matter, you don't remember? Oh, you must have amnesia. | ” |
— Billy |
"Hamnesia" is the first segment of the fourteenth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the twenty-sixth episode overall. It is paired with "Romancing the Scone" and premiered on Disney Channel on February 4, 2023.[1][3]
After a fight with the villain Record Scratch, Hamster has been separated from Gretel and Kevin, and also lost his memory. While Hamster is being taken care of by a boy named Billy, Kevin and Gretel look all over town for him.
Plot
Following a battle with Record Scratch, Hamster has developed amnesia after being struck by a truck, and is taken by a young boy named Billy to his home. The two grow closer to each other as Hamster helps Billy overcome his fears of climbing Oakey and playing catch. Meanwhile, Kevin and Gretel go around town searching for Hamster, in the process learning about his various hobbies including painting, peforming live with musicians, and visiting Easter Island.
When Hamster lifts an electric fence after Billy's ball gets stuck under it, Kevin finds him and attempts to convince Billy that Hamster belongs to him and his family. The encounter (or more specifically, Hamster's love of cabbage) restores the rodent's memory. However, Billy reveals that he is actually an adult villain named the Imposter. The villain reveals he had planned everything from the beginning, including the fight with Record Scratch, to have Hamster lose his memory and use Hamster's kindness in order to gain access to a tank, which he will use to terrorize the city. Gretel, who conveniently happens to be flying over a trapped Hamster and Kevin, arrives to rescue them, and the three are able to thwart the villain's plans thanks to Hamster's ability to fly.

Memorable quotes
Gretel: He's not anywhere! Maybe something happened to him. Kevin: What could happen to him? He has superpowers. He was probably hungry and went home to eat some carrots. Gretel: Cabbage! Cabbage is his favorite! Kevin: I don't know. He's your hamster. Gretel: That's a terrible thing to say! He's our hamster! (flies off) Kevin: I just meant that you feed him! (to himself) I don't feed him because he's not my hamster. |
Billy: Wow! I'll never be afraid of anything again, I swear! Except for snakes, and the dark, and potatoes, okay? They have eyes; it's creepy! (sighs) I still have a few things to work through. |
Imposter: I am The Imposter! Hamster: Gotta admit, I did not see that coming. |
Gretel: I missed you so much! Don't you ever do that again! Hamster: You mean get amnesia and get abducted by a grown man disguised as a kid? Okay, I'll avoid that. Neither of you is gonna unzip your skin, are you? Kevin and Gretel: No, we're good. |
