Joel Armogasto Martinez, also known as The Kid Mero, is a Dominican-American actor, writer and producer. He gained fame with Desus Nice through their podcast “Desus vs. Mero” and later co-hosted “Desus & Mero” on Viceland and Showtime.

Born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, to Dominican immigrants, Martinez grew up in various Bronx neighborhoods. He discovered his comedic talent early but wasn’t interested in televised comedy. He attended several schools, eventually graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School and briefly studying at Bronx Community College and Hunter College.

Mero worked as a teaching assistant at I.S. 117, a school he once attended, and began writing for Vice’s Noisey in 2012. He holds a world record for a kazoo solo and joined the cast of MTV’s “Guy Code” in 2014. “Desus & Mero” premiered on Viceland in 2016 and later on Showtime in 2019.

For Hamster & Gretel, he will be voicing Luis Demo.[1]
