I just got my first job! I-I’m starting today at Short Burger.

Kevin Grant-Gomez

"Micromanager" is the second segment of the seventeenth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the thirty-third episode overall. It is paired with "The Bottle Episode" and has premiered on Disney Channel on February 25, 2023.[1][2]

Kevin manages to get a job at a new burger joint called Short Burger, as he competes against his colleague Anthony for Employee of the Month. Meanwhile, Gretel decides that she and Hamster should work out more.

Plot

Kevin informs his parents that he has gotten a job at Short Burger in order to be able to add a racing stripe to the minivan. While there, he meets Anthony, another employee at Short Burger. The two compete for the title of Employee of the Month. Meanwhile, Gretel notices that she and Hamster have not been fighting much crime lately and decides to perform a series of workout drills to keep themselves in shape. However, these workouts are excessively intense and leave the heroes too tired and sore to fly.

Kevin and Anthony are tasked with building two robot legs, which later lead them to the office of their boss, Micromanager, a former Tall Burger employee who mistakenly shrunk himself attempting to create tiny onion rings. He reveals that he has created a robot that will aid him in destroying Tall Burger. Kevin calls Hamster and Gretel, but they are so sore, they require the wind to push them around and are unable to fight the robot. Kevin and Anthony then remember that they used gum as an adhesive while assembling portions of the robot and highlight them as weak points. Hamster and Gretel heed their instructions, leading to Micromanager's defeat.

Background information

Allusions

  • The episode title, as well as the villain it is named after, not only is a pun referring to the size, but also refers the term "micromanagement", a practice in which one controls every part of something, no matter how minute. Micromanagement can refer to a style of business management in which many things at a workplace is being closely maintained by a manager, as well as the handling of many elements in video games.
  • The Incredibles - During their workout, Hamster pulls a train and Gretel juggles another train the same way that Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible pulls a train and flips a tank car onto a train track for his workout.

Errors

  • The Disney General Entertainment Content press website has erroneously listed "Micromanager" as the first half of Episode 117, and "The Bottle Episode" as the second half, instead of the other way around.
