“ | Yes, you should pretend to be a villain. Come up with a whole supervillain persona, complete with vague, veiled threats. Then they'll have to talk to you. | ” |
"Miss Direct" is the first segment of the nineteenth episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the ninety-fourth episode overall. It is paired with "Trading Faces" and premiered on Disney Channel on April 6, 2025.[2][3]
Upon Ms. Knight's suggestion, Hiromi becomes a fake villain named Miss Direct and attempts to trick Hamster and Gretel into an interview. Meanwhile, Kevin contemplates on whether he should tell Hiromi the truth.
Plot[]
Continuing from where the previous episode left off, Hiromi relays her findings to Ms. Knight, who insists that Hiromi trick Hamster and Gretel into an interview by pretending to be a villain, upon learning that she has had trouble getting to interview them in the past. Though dubious, she accepts in hopes of Ms. Knight securing her a journalism internship. When Kevin learns about Hiromi's intentions after bumping into her, he attempts to direct her interest elsewhere, but to no avail.
Several days later, Fred shows Kevin, Hamster, and Gretel a series of symbols left all over town in the form of graffiti. These symbols are connected to the "villain" Miss Direct, who demands that the heroes meet her at a warehouse, lest her "minions" attack the city. Hamster and Gretel travel to the warehouse, while Kevin, who is considering revealing Hamster and Gretel's identities to Hiromi, goes on a walk by himself, only to run into The Destructress. After conversing with her, Kevin realizes that he must prioritize Gretel's safety over his own needs.
Meanwhile, Miss Direct attempts to interview Hamster and Gretel, but their answers to her questions do not satisfy her. Miss Direct's plans, however, are foiled when she encounters a mouse that climbs onto her body, causing Miss Direct to run around frantically and remove her villain costume. Hamster and Gretel then figure out that Miss Direct is Hiromi, and despite her apology, Gretel distrusts Hiromi, insisting that she will never get an interview.
After Ms. Knight arrives to see how the interview went, she uses the DNA left on bottles of water that Hamster and Gretel had been drinking to determine their identities. Upon her teacher leaving the classroom, Hiromi discovers a wealth of face masks resembling other students in her class hidden behind the board. As Hiromi puts on a mask resembling Fred, Kevin enters the room and, mistaking Hiromi for Fred, Kevin unknowingly reveals to her that he is Super Guy, with Ms. Knight's machine subsequently completing the results of its analysis of Gretel's DNA.

Trivia[]
- This episode has its title credits displayed in a shade of yellow that is darker than in most episodes. It shares this trait with its sister episode, "Trading Faces".
- Hiromi has been trying to get Hamster and Gretel an interview for months now.
- It is revealed that Hiromi has a fear of mice.
- During the song "Going Bad with Good Intentions," Hiromi is briefly seen wearing her 1970s disco costume from "Saturday Homecoming Fever," her ranch costume from "Crimson Haste Makes Waste," and her Grimply the custodian costume from "An Arthouse Divided."
- During the same song, Hiromi has set up a vision board depicting various villains from prior episodes to take inspiration from. These villains include La Cebolla, CopyCat, The Earworm, the skeleton villainess and the running villainess from "Superhero Sibling Rivalry", Record Scratch, The Amplifier, Crimson Haste, El Luchador, and Tchotchke Jones.
- Hiromi learns of Hamster and Gretel's civilian identities and that Kevin was Super Guy.
- This makes Hiromi the fifth ally to know of Hamster and Gretel's superhero identities, following Abuelita ("Abuelita's World"), Bailey ("My Invisible Friend"/"The Bitter Sitter"), Tobor ("Tobor or Not Tobor") and Main Computer ("Everybody Loves Main Computer").
- This episode's plot, and it being followed by "Trading Faces" is similar to "My Invisible Friend" and "The Bitter Sitter", in how both Hiromi and Bailey respectively have been revealed Hamster and Gretel's secret identities after being out of the loop for so long.
- The warehouse in which Hiromi as Miss Direct lures Hamster and Gretel to appears identical to the Mama Maria's Tortillas warehouse used by The Syndicate in "My Hammie Vice" (which in turn was previously used by The Earworm in his eponymous episode), with the only significant differences being that it misses the "Mama Maria's Tortillas" sign on the façade, and that this warehouse is specifically located in "Little Scandinavia".
- Hiromi got access to this warehouse through Ms. Knight, who in turn has connections to attain access to the warehouse. Since the following episode, "Trading Faces", reveals that Ms. Knight was The Imposter the whole time, it is likely that one of those connections may have been either members of The Syndicate, or The Earworm.
Allusions[]
- The title of this episode is a play on the word "misdirect", which is to lead someone into the wrong direction.
- Wonder Woman/DC Comics - Hiromi's Miss Direct costume has similarities to that of the DC Comics villainess Doctor Cyber, both bearing a hooded cape and a face-concealing mask.
- Fantastic Four/Marvel Comics - Her costume is also similar to that of the villain Doctor Doom, who similarly also wears a hooded cape and a face-concealing mask.
