All right, we're pivoting our strategy. I've made a discovery that will ensure our victory. Chad Goldenboy isn't who he says he is!

Fred Grant

"President Fred" is the second segment of the twenty-eighth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the fifty-fifth episode overall. It is paired with "Too Many Crooks" and premiered on Disney Channel on November 11, 2023.[2]

The race for Eastside High School student body president is coming up, and Kevin notes that Fred would be a much better candidate than Chad Goldenboy. Fred initially isn't interested, until one day she gets aggressively competitive to take Chad down.

Plot[]

The Eastside High School student body presidential race is underway, with the incumbent Chad Goldenboy running unopposed. Believing the school is in need of much-needed change, Kevin encourages Fred to run against him, to which she accepts. However, Chad continually proves to be the more popular candidate despite Kevin and Fred's numerous attempts to earn votes, pushing the latter to give up. When Kevin encourages her not to give up, Fred bursts into the house the next day and claims that Chad is actually an old man pretending to be a high school student. Though initially skeptical, Kevin decides to investigate with Hamster and Gretel and spots an elderly Chad giving prunes to Mrs. Maybank at the town's senior center. The three relay their findings to Fred, who is becoming increasingly tyrannical in her drive to win the election, prompting an off-put Gretel to leave.

While at a print store retrieving an enlarged poster of Chad at Fred's request, Kevin notices a poster of Chad and other senior citizens on the walls and Mrs. Maybank explains to him that Chad is participating in a play in which he portrays an 80-year-old man. Realizing his mistake, Kevin rushes to the school to inform Fred. It is then revealed that The Imposter has disguised himself as Fred and is participating in the presidential race in order to seek revenge on Chad for landing the lead role in the senior play. The real Fred–having spent the past four days in an escape room–arrives with Hamster and Gretel, leading to a battle, during which Fred withdraws from the race, allowing Hamster and Gretel to determine who is The Imposter and defeat him. The next day Kevin tells Fred that he regards her as a leader despite Chad’s clear victory.

Memorable quotes[]

Kevin: And that's the biggest secret I'll ever tell anyone, and I'll never repeat it again.
Fred: Sorry, did you say something?
Gretel: Do you really think Chad could be an old man?
Kevin: Fred's smart; she might be onto something. Plus, it wouldn't be the weirdest thing that's happened in our town.
Hamster: He's got a point. I mean, I am a talking hamster.
Fred: (gasps) He is old! And look. Prunes, the currency of the elderly! That's excellent, excellent! We must assimilate our proof! Chad is old.
Gretel: Wait, I really think we may have this wrong.
Fred: GET OUT OF MY HOUSE!
Gretel: Um, this is my house.
Chad: "Hello, students. I smell good! Who agrees by applause?" That should fill two minutes.
Kevin: I'm so happy you're not a crazy, power-hungry monster.
Fred: Meh, I'm young. I've still got time.

Background information[]

Trivia[]

  • This is one of the last two episodes to premiere on Disney Channel alongside a new episode of The Ghost and Molly McGee, as both shows would premiere episodes separately from each other on said network until the latter show concludes its run in 2024. The other episode being "Too Many Crooks".

Allusions[]

Errors[]

  • As Fred leaves the Grant-Gomez house after relaying her theory that Chad is a teenager, her packet of apple juice switches from green to yellow, with the straw changing from white to green. The juice box switches back to green (and the straw back to white) as the scene changes to a wider shot, when she throws it on the ground.
