Professor Exclamation, also referred to as Jack Ampersand, is a recurring villain in Hamster & Gretel. He appears to be an inventor, who decided to become a supervillain after losing his elbows in an industrial accident (which may explain his short arms), deciding that if he couldn't bend his arms, he would bend everyone else to his will.

Professor Exclamation is the very first villain that Hamster, Gretel, and Kevin have faced in the series, debuting in the episode "Empower Failure", the series' first episode. He also has a son named Nordle, a prodigy with altered DNA, whom he wishes to grow up becoming an evil genius like himself.

Physical appearance[]

Professor Exclamation is a tall man with a large, protruding chin, a crooked nose, bags under his eyes, misaligned glimmers in his eyes, and most notably, very short arms. In "Romancing the Scone", it is revealed that Professor Exclamation had lost his elbows due to an industrial accident, which not only could explain why his arms are so short (as it could mean his forearms may have been lost as well), but further reveals he cannot bend his arms, either. Due to this, it is possible that his hands may be artificial, but it's also entirely possible that only his elbows are lost and that his arms are naturally short.

He wears an purple costume with yellow rings around the sleeves, a collar and a yellow exclamation on the torso, a gray undershirt, white shoes, and a purple hat with a yellow exclamation mark on it. This purple hat conceals a black-haired lock on his forehead; aside from this lock of hair, Professor Exclamation is otherwise bald.

Before losing his elbows, Exclamation had a slightly smaller chin, no bags under his eyes, correctly aligned glimmers in his eyes, and arms of normal length. He also wore a green shirt.

Personality[]

Professor Exclamation revels in being evil, and desires for his son Nordle to be his heir in villainy. He dislikes having friends, stating that he never had any friends and claims he grew up just fine without them; thinks lowly of his other villainous colleagues, seeing them as obstacles that would complicate his schemes; and hates children, viewing them as needy, annoying brats that make no contribution to society. He views himself and Nordle as more intelligent than anyone else, but may be conceited enough about it that he views it as everyone else being more dim-witted than the two of them. Truly, though, Professor Exclamation is self-centered and gives little about what Nordle wants. He's also very self-conscious about his lack of elbows.

Professor Exclamation was actually not always like this. When he was a teenager named Jack Ampersand in high school, he was a care-free, goody-two-shoes boy with a love and knack for juggling - hence his high school nickname, Juggling Jack - to the point that he would fill out his resume with just the word "juggling" over and over. He and his mellow nature were beloved by everyone at the school, including Dave, whom he had workshop class with, to the point that everyone believed that he would never turn evil, ironically enough. Present day Professor Exclamation resents his past life, finding it an embarrassment and referring to his past self as "that juggling loser".

Skills and abilities[]

Professor Exclamation is shown to be one of Hamster and Gretel's most imposing adversaries. Not only is he an inventor of many dangerous robots and machinery, but he is also proven to be cunning and calculated, given how meticulous his five-step plan to defeat Hamster and Gretel is; and how he tends to have underlying intentions, as with the founding of the Council of Düm being a front to neutralize his other supervillain colleagues for his plans. Moreover, he nearly manages to defeat Hamster and Gretel twice, if it weren't for Kevin's own logic in "Empower Failure" or bravery in "Exclamation Strikes Back". He also manages to stand victorious against Hamster, Gretel and Kevin once in "I Was a Teenage Mad Scientist", when he has successfully excavated the Unbendium under the Eastside High School, with the superhero duo being unable to thwart him.

Back when he was a teenager, Jack Ampersand was also an excellent juggler, being able to juggle the most inconceivable things all the time, from various heavy-looking tools at the workshop to single-celled microbes under a microscope. It is unknown if Professor Exclamation is still able to juggle.

Early life and background[]

Professor Exclamation used to be a carefree, mellow person named Jack Ampersand, who was a skilled and passionate juggler in his high school days. However, during his adulthood, Jack lost his elbows in an industrial accident, resulting into him deciding to become evil, figuring that if he could not bend his arms anymore, he'd vow to instead bend everyone else to his will. Now calling himself a supervillain, Jack prefers going by the name of Professor Exclamation and has resented his past since. He also made plans to have his son Nordle follow his footsteps and become his successor in evil.

Season 1[]

Professor Exclamation becomes the very first villain Hamster and Gretel face in "Empower Failure", the first episode of Hamster & Gretel. He announces to attack city hall with a giant army of robots while everyone is watching a live Duck Boyz concert, using it to distract Hamster and Gretel so he could lock them up in an unbreakable cage connected to the city's power grid. He succeeds in doing so, but is defeated when Kevin uses that same Duck Boyz concert to tell viewers at home overload the power grid, causing a blackout and freeing Hamster and Gretel.

Professor Exclamation would not tell his son Nordle (who debuted in "A Mammoth Problem") about his supervillain side until "Romancing the Scone", after his robot servant Tobor detects evil energy radiating from Nordle. Nordle reveals the evil energy seems to come from a scone that fell into his backpack, as Professor Exclamation goads him to eat it so they could be evil together. Much to Exclamation's chagrin and disappointment, Nordle decides to destroy the scone instead.

Throughout the last third of Season 1, Professor Exclamation is concocting and preparing a plan to defeat Hamster and Gretel once and for all. This was first revealed in "Two Girls, A Guy and the Council of Düm", in which he discusses this with fellow supervillains La Cebolla, The Nightmarionette and The Earworm; in reality, he plans to neutralize them since they would complicate his plans. He succeeds, but gets thrown out by his superhero defense system. This is followed by "Finding Professor Ex", in which Gretel and Nordle try to locate Exclamation and come very close to learning about his plan to defeat Hamster and Gretel through a robotic mannequin copy after a series of tests in an abandoned doll factory; though, they do not find out in the end. Professor Exclamation returns in "I Was a Teenage Mad Scientist", in which he reluctantly attends a high school reunion in order to excavate Unbendium for his great plan. He manages to do so, in addition to finding Kevin and realizing he's Gretel's older brother, which he finds useful for his plan as he escapes successfully with the Unbendium to Las Vegas.

In "Exclamation Strikes Back", he meets up with FistPuncher and The Destructress to excavate a weird rock they used to disable Hamster and Gretel's superpowers (as seen in "U.F. UH-OH!"), viewing it as the final item needed for his grand plan. He later kidnaps Kevin by hijacking his date with Hiromi, in order to lure Hamster and Gretel to the abandoned doll factory. There, he uses a laser to store Hamster and Gretel's superpowers in the power-sapping rock, which he then uses as the power source for a giant mech suit made of Unbendium to take over the world with. Hamster, Gretel and Kevin, after being rescued by Fred and Bailey, give chase and figure that destroying the rock would give back Hamster and Gretel's superpowers and defeat Professor Exclamation. After some failed attempts, Kevin steps in to break the rock using the Key to the City that Hamster and Gretel received earlier, at the risk of his own life. He succeeds in doing so, defeating Professor Exclamation and his mech.
