I can't believe we never heard about these headphones! I thought you were staying on top of all the cool trends.

"Sock It To Me, Bailey!" is the second segment of the fifteenth episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the eighty-seventh episode overall. It is paired with "Gentlemen Prefer Fronds" and premiered on Disney Channel on February 2, 2025.[2]

Gretel and Bailey discover the latest trend in Party Animal Headphones and try to attend a party which requires wearing a pair for entry. It turns out, however, that the headphones are a hypnotic ploy for a villain's vengeance.

Plot[]

At school, Bailey laments that she often feels left out while Hamster and Gretel carry out superhero work, only for Gretel to notice that the other students have engaged in the latest trend of wearing "Party Animal Headphones." Not wishing to continually be made fun of by other students and wishing to attend a party, Gretel and Bailey make plans to acquire the headphones at the mall. When the headphones quickly sell out, however, Hamster reveals that he managed to purchase a pair for himself and Gretel, leaving Bailey left out once again.

When Gretel and Bailey attend the party–with Bailey wearing a decoy pair of headphones–the deejay, a disguised Earworm, plays a hypnotic song and instructs everyone to destroy the Taco Cucnhies factory as revenge for his contract being terminated due to his actions. Bailey, the only one unaffected due to the decoy headphones being incompatible with the sound system, rushes off to inform Kevin, who is attempting to wash his dirty clothes per Carolina's request. Repulsed by the putrid smell of Kevin's socks, Bailey resolves to use them to break the partygoers out of their hypnotic state. When Kevin eventually gets hypnotized as well, Bailey launches her sole remaining sock into the conveyor belt, dispersing the sock's scent across the entire factory. This then allows Hamster and Gretel to defeat The Earworm, after which Bailey realizes the importance of being herself.

Allusions[]

  • "Sock It to Me, Baby!" - The episode's title is a play on this 1967 song, performed by Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels.
    • The use of this song title may be a pun, given that Bailey uses Kevin's dirty socks undo the hypnotic effects of the Party Animal Headphones.
  • The Fairly OddParents - The art and animation style of the commercial for Party Animal Headphones is reminiscent of that of this classic Nicktoon.
  • The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie - The Earworm luring a bunch of people to his party and then hypnotizing them via his Party Animal Headphones to form an army of minions, is similar to Plankton turning his Chum Bucket customers into brainwashed soldiers by activating their Chum Bucket helmets in this 2004 feature-length film.
  • Super Mario 64 - Hamster and Gretel grabbing the Earworm by the tail and spinning him around before launching him into the salsa references the Bowser battles of Super Mario 64 where Mario grabs him by the tail and spins him around before launching him off the platform.

Errors[]

  • When Bailey lifts up her glasses when pinching her nose from the smell of socks, she has no sclera on her eyes.
