"The Art of Deception" is the second segment of the eighteenth episode of the second season of Hamster & Gretel, and the ninety-third episode overall. It is paired with "Gran Slam" and premiered on Disney Channel on March 30, 2025.[2][3]

When making a last-minute art project for the school's art show in order to not disappoint her parents, Hiromi accidentally makes use of a box that contains truth gas.

Plot[]

Scrambling to put together an art project in time for an art show her parents plan to attend, Hiromi uses items she found in a nearby trash can to create a sculpture. Unbeknownst to Hiromi, however, one of the items is a box that contains a canister of truth gas, which she mistakenly released when assembling the "sculpture." Meanwhile, Kevin, Hamster, and Gretel sneak into the school to retrieve files that Hiromi used in her latest paper in order to prevent Hamster and Gretel's identities from being revealed.

As Hiromi's parents make their grand entrance, they immediately wish to see Hiromi's artwork, with Hiromi nervously directing them to other students' projects. Fred then notifies Hiromi that her sculpture is leaking and the two discover that it is leaking truth gas. Hiromi attempts to dispose of it, only for her parents to spot and praise it, insisting that they show it to the judge. The art show erupts into chaos when the judge awards Hiromi's artwork first prize, as the truth gas reveals that she only did so to obtain the approval of Hiromi's parents. Other contestants and their parents are forced to reveal their own truths, sparking a series of arguments and leading to sculptures falling apart.

When Hiromi's attempt to evacuate the school fails, Fred resorts to calling Kevin, who sends Hamster and Gretel to dispose of the truth gas and save the school. At the same time, Hiromi admits to her parents that she wants to be a journalist instead of an artist, with her parents assuring her that she will have their love and acceptance regardless of her career path. Later that night, as Kevin, Fred, Hamster, and Gretel celebrate that their identities will remain secret (as Kevin managed to retrieve the files), Hiromi reviews the "footage" of Super Guy's last known appearance. Upon seeing Gretel in the reflection of Super Guy's eyes, she concludes that Gretel was involved in Super Guy's disappearance and vows to reveal the truth, ending the episode on a cliffhanger.
