| “ | Are you cool enough for Ice Queen Ice Cream? Inga will decide. | ” |
"The Ice Queen Cometh" is the second segment of the twenty-second episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the forty-third episode overall. It is paired with "Over the Hill" and premiered on Disney Channel on July 8, 2023.[3][4]
Kevin and Gretel encounter a trendy ice cream parlor, whose proprietor only lets in people based on how cool she thinks they are. She allows Kevin inside, planning to freeze him like the other cool people.
Plot[]
On a particularly hot day, Kevin and Gretel encounter a new trendy ice cream store. However, the owner, Inga the Ice Queen, is denying certain people access based on how cool she thinks they are, including Gretel–although, she does allow Kevin to enter for criticizing one's coolness being used as a measurement of self-worth. As Hamster and Gretel leave to fight the villain Pendulum Pete, Kevin is given an opportunity to try a new flavor of ice cream, only to end up frozen.
When Hamster and Gretel arrive to investigate after Kevin attempts to call them, they are attacked by Inga, after which, she explains her intentions to be surrounded by cool friends when asked what her motive is. They then discover the source of her frozen powers, Eïysze, which the heroes are unable to melt due to no force on Earth being able to melt it. Eventually, Hamster and Gretel are affected by Inga’s machine, giving her the advantage. However, this ends up being short-lived, as the Eïysze is launched into space and crashes into the sun, freeing everyone who was affected by the machine. Afterwards, Inga is defeated and arrested by police.

Memorable quotes[]
Kevin: (sighs) Whatever. Let's just blow this joint, Gretel. Using coolness as a measure of self-worth is a deeply flawed and totally subjective concept. Inga: Wait! Your hatred of coolness is intrinsically cool. You can go in! Kevin and Gretel: We can? Inga: Not you, edgeless girl. Only him. Follow me! (walks into the store) Kevin: So, uh... do you want me to get you something? Hamster: Wow, not so deeply flawed and totally subjective now, huh? |
Gretel: Next time, Pete, I hope you deal with your bizarre digital clock issues in a healthier way. Hamster: Like complaining into the void of the Internet like a normal person. |
Inga: I see you've found the source of my coolness―Eïysze. Gretel: Ice? Inga: No, no ice, Eïysze. Hamster: Are we missing something? Inga: Ugh! My secret recipe contains Eïysze, a special mineral compound I excavated myself. It looks like ice, it freezes like ice, but honey, it ain't ice, it's Eïysze! |
Inga: (gasps) How is this possible? Gretel: Nice try, lady, but you said it yourself: nothing on Earth could melt your special formula. Luckily, I remembered that in space, there's a big, flaming, hot ball of gas called the sun. Inga: Now, you've got edge. Gretel: Yay, I'm edgy! Inga: Und now you've lost it. (Gretel breaks her hover vehicle) Okay, you've got it baaaaaaaaak! |

Background information[]
Trivia[]
- Kevin is revealed to have no middle name due to his parents considering the surname Grant-Gomez long enough. This may also count for Gretel, who, as Kevin's sister, shares the Grant-Gomez surname.
- This is the third episode where Gretel has to rescue Kevin ("Cheer Cheer Bang Bang", "Hamnesia").
- At the end of the episode, Hamster sighs and says the line "This town, man" in response to Helga's hot soup parlor. Hamster previously did this in "The Bottle Episode", after he, Gretel and Kevin were shrunk in the same bottle as The Muddy Bess by Tchotchke Jones.
- This is one of the first two episodes (other being "Over the Hill") to premiere on Disney Channel alongside a new episode of The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Allusions[]
- The Iceman Cometh - The title of this episode is a pun on the title of this 1939 play written by Eugene O'Neill.
