This article is about the villain that projects peoples' worst nightmares with his staff. You may be looking for the episode of the same name.

The Nightmarionette is an antagonist in Hamster & Gretel. A former neuroscientist, The Nightmarionette can paralyze anyone into fear by projecting their worst nightmare to them via his specially-designed staff. His supervillain name is a mashup of "nightmare" and "marionette", which he appears to be very proud of, as he refers to himself as a puppeteer of fears.

Physical appearance[]

The Nightmarionette is shown to be a tall, dark-skinned man with no hair. He wears a long-sleeved, light purple shirt with dark purple sleeves, a sleeveless vest with three green buttons, dark purple pants and shoes.

Personality[]

“Oh, wonderful chaos and fear! It hasn't completely healed my low self-esteem, but I'm getting there!”
— The Nightmarionette, "The Nightmarionette"

Weapons and abilities[]

The Nightmarionette uses a specially-made staff by his own design, which brings peoples' worst fears to life. The staff itself is able to scan a person's mind, then use that data to create a highly-realistic, holographic projection of the object or creature they fear. It can also create an entire neural projection, such as Veronica Hill's fear of weather forecasting. The staff also has a button that allows The Nightmarionette to pull a deeper fear from the target's unconscious if needed. The Nightmarionette is able to create such a staff due to being knowledgeable in the field of neuroscience himself.

History[]

The Nightmarionette was a neuroscientist working on reading peoples' dreams using electromagnetic waves. It is implied he became a villain by abusing his knowledge on neuroscience onto others, due to his low self-esteem.

Hamster and Gretel first encountered The Nightmarionette in the episode of the same name, while he was robbing a bank on 4th and Main. After teasing him about being a puppet, he blasted both of them with his staff. Gretel suffered from a fear of a toaster-scorpion hybrid, while Hamster suffered from a fear of vacuum cleaners. Kevin used immersion therapy on Gretel to help her overcome her fear of toaster-scorpion hybrids, while Hamster went back to the pet store he was bought from to overcome his fear. With her fear gone, Kevin and Gretel confronted The Nightmarionette at the Danville Gold Depository. Gretel's immersion therapy helped her easily face the toaster-scorpion hybrids, but she was unprepared when The Nightmarionette used his staff to project a deeper fear of blender-lobster hybrids.

“You know what beats scary stuff? Dumb stuff!”
— Gretel, "The Nightmarionette"

Kevin realized that the only way to beat The Nightmarionette's fear factor was dumbness, so he pulled out Mr. Grumpypus, causing Gretel to laugh in spite of her fear. She realized that her fear of arthropod-appliance hybrids was dumb, and broke The Nightmarionette's neural projection. Hamster arrived and punched The Nightmarionette out of the depository, causing him to crash through several floors of a harp store and end up hanging in a marionette-like position. Unfortunately, the store's sign, "You break it you bought it," meant that he would have to pay for all of them.
