“ | Raptors, bring me Horsegobble! I'll tear this museum apart brick by brick until I find wherever he is cowering! | ” |
"The Unnatural History of Dr. MedusaSaurus Ph.D." is the second segment of the twenty-fourth episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the forty-seventh episode overall. It is paired with "Nano a Nano" and premiered on Disney Channel on October 14, 2023.[2]
During a Saturday trip at the Horsegobble Natural History Museum, a peculiar paleontologist with dinosaur bones for hair has broken out of a tar pit and is seeking revenge to the museum's current owner.
Plot[]
Bailey brings Gretel to the Horsegobble Natural History Museum to see fossils, much to the latter's disinterest. However, the aliens mistakenly awaken palentologist Dr. MedusaSaurus and animate dinosaur fossils, with which she terroizes the museum. Kevin sends Hamster to help Gretel once he learns about the situation and informs her that he will come along later on.
When Hamster arrives, he and Gretel get to work defeating the dinosaur fossils, but they prove to be too difficult for them. Gretel then calls Kevin, who informs her that the metal plates used to connect the fossils are magnetic. Hamster and Bailey use a giant magnet powered by the minivan's battery to catch the fossils, rendering Kevin unable to assist them. Dr. MedusaSaurus reveals that her plan was to seek revenge on the museum founder, Melvin Horsegobble, she was the one who discovered the fossils, and that her real name is Julie Jennings while Horsegobble was merely her intern who had knocked her into a tar pit contaminated with toxic waste and left her in suspended animation for the past 30 years. Realizing his mistake, Horsegobble has the museum renamed after her and his findings relinquished to her.

Memorable quotes[]
Gretel: I just don't get why you're excited about a bunch of bones. Bailey: They're fossils! Sediment replacing the soft bone, turning it into stone over millions of years. What could be more fun? Gretel: Bailey, we're at a museum on a Saturday. Saturday! Bailey: I know! We're so lucky! |
Male Alien: Oops! Female Alien: What did you do? Male Alien: Sorry, I was texting. Female Alien: You're not supposed to text while flying! Male Alien: I wasn't flying, I was hovering. |
Kevin: Hey, Gretel! Did you know that hollandaise sauce is not from Holland? Anyway, I'm making eggs. (imitating the Cockney Cakeoff host) Oi, me eggs! Gretel: No one cares, Kevin! |
Kevin: Gretel, I'm coming. I just gotta put real clothes on. Gretel: You're still in your pajamas? Kevin: It's Saturday. Saturday! Gretel: That's what I said! |
Julie: (to Susan) Find Horsegobble! (Susan rides away, leaving the other minions to ambush Gretel and Bailey.) Gretel: Who's Horsegobble? Bailey: He's the guy who founded this museum! Weren't you paying attention? Gretel: I was not. |
Gretel: We've thrown everything at these bonebags, but they keep on coming! Hamster: Well, at least my mug is safe. (Whip-pan to one of the minions breaking Hamster's mug.) Hamster: And they broke my mug. I am disappointed. |
Bailey: Okay, here's the magnet, but the battery is just for display; it's made of cardboard! Hamster: Don't worry. (Hamster flies off, then comes back with a car battery.) Bailey: That was fast. Hamster: I know a guy. (Cut to the minivan sitting in the middle of the freeway, causing a major traffic jam. A bemused Kevin stares at the minivan's engine with the hood open.) Kevin: HOW DOES MY BATTERY GO MISSING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY?! |
Julie: While I was buried, that intern stole my work, my fossils, and they named the whole museum after him! (Bailey gasps) Julie: And that intern was Melvin Horsegobble! (A dramatic sting plays. More guests gasp.) Julie: And he couldn't even make coffee! (The guests gasp again.) Woman: That's an intern's most important job! Woman 2: You just press the button! |

Trivia[]
- Writer Joshua Pruett originally drafted this episode with the title "The Horror of Dr MedusaSaurus and the Unnatural Natural History Museum of Horrors".[3] It was initially pitched with a different premise as well, in which Dr. MedusaSaurus used a power-imbued rock pick or shovel (a la Thor and his hammer Mjölnir) to not only reanimate the skeletons of dinosaurs and ancient animals, but also turn fleeing people into fossils.[4] The initial pitch also notes that Dr. MedusaSaurus was not appreciated in her own time, and takes over the museum, with the intent to force the world to revere her.[4]
- This is the third episode where Carolina appears without Dave ("Romancing the Scone", "An Arthouse Divided").
- This is Michelle's final appearance in Season 1.
Allusions[]
- Batman (1966) - During the song Bone To Pick, some of the attacks by Hamster and Gretel are followed with a cut to a title card with the appropriate (pseudo) onomatopoeia, similar to various fight scenes in the 1966 live-action Batman television series.
Errors[]
- On the Disney Branded Television press website's October 2023 Programming Highlights press release, this episode is referred to as "The Ultimate History of Dr. MedusaSaurus".[1]
- When Jennings asks Horsegobble if him taking credit for her life's work wasn't an accident, the frame of Bailey's glasses appear to not be colored in.
