Kevin Grant-Gomez

"U.F. UH-OH!" is the tenth full episode of the first season of Hamster & Gretel, and the nineteenth episode overall. It is separated in two segments called "U.F. UH-OH! Part I" and "U.F. UH-OH! Part II", and premiered on Disney Channel on October 8, 2022.

The Grant-Gomez family is vacationing in Las Vegas. As Kevin and Gretel are spending their time in Vegas, Kevin is constantly being reminded of his lack of superpowers rendering him unknown and under-appreciated, making him desperate to meet with the aliens once more. Later though, the U.F.O. of said aliens has suddenly started to terrorize Las Vegas and abducted Gretel, leaving it to Kevin and Hamster to rescue her.

Meanwhile, Dave and Carolina try relaxing in the hotel's adult swimming pool, but then attempt to enter the water slide at the children's pool after realizing that looks more fun.

Plot

Part I

During a vacation in Las Vegas, Dave and Carolina allow Kevin and Gretel to enjoy themselves on their own while they go to an adults only pool. Gretel tells Kevin about her plans to visit events and memorabilia revolving around herself and Hamster. However, during a musical revolving around a discount Hamster and Gretel named Champster & Gretta, Kevin is disappointed when the actors fail to acknowledge his existence and depicts "Gretta" as an only child. As he laments not being chosen to receive superpowers, Wacko Wally offers him an opportunity to meet the aliens that gave Hamster and Gretel their powers. Gretel is at first reluctant to join him, but changes her mind when she realizes that Kevin feels left out because of not getting superpowers.

Unfortunately, Kevin's excitement turns into disappointment once again when Wacko takes them to a gift shop owned by his family. Meanwhile, Dave and Carolina decide to visit a waterslide, but are denied access due to not having any kids with them. When Wally returns them to the wax museum, the aliens' spacecraft appears and begins attacking the city. Gretel attempts to save the city from the aliens' spacecraft, only to get abducted. Kevin then chases the spacecraft down, but fails to rescue Gretel―although, he does manage to snap a picture of a message they left behind in a field. Hamster, who spent much of the episode playing Go Fish at a casino, arrives to learn the terrible news.

Part II

Continuing where the previous part left off, Kevin and Hamster attempt to decipher the message the aliens left behind, "J3Hound+Sit." Fred tracks the message down to a dog obedience school, where the employee shows them that the message actually spells "FistPuncher", and they were looking at it upside-down. On the ship, FistPuncher and The Destructress reveal that they stole the ship from Area 51, trapped Gretel in a glass chamber with a rock that drains her superpowers and that they will use the ship to destroy the Las Vegas dam. However, Gretel manages to incapacitate them by acting like an annoying younger sibling.

Meanwhile, Kevin and Hamster prepare to rescue Gretel using Kevin's armor suit, only to be stopped by an impenetrable glass door. When Kevin asks why FistPuncher and The Destructress would use their powers for evil, they explain that the same aliens that gave Hamster and Gretel gave them power too and told them to use their power told them to do that, much to the shock of the others. Hamster manages to break through it battles FistPuncher and The Destructress, while Kevin attempts to save Gretel from falling off the spaceship. He succeeds, only to mistakenly crack the Las Vegas dam, causing it to burst.

Once Gretel's powers are restored, Hamster―after defeating FistPuncher and The Destructress with aid from a decoy of himself―joins her in preventing the reservoir from flooding the city by using the water slide to redirect the water back towards the dam and throwing a large rock in the crack in the dam.

The three then join Dave and Carolina, who failed to get into the water slide due to being closed for cleaning, and because Hamster took it earlier to stop the flooding, for dinner. Kevin and Gretel then question the aliens' motives with the knowledge that FistPuncher and The Destructress were told to use their powers specifically for evil. The episode ends with the aliens observing Hamster and Gretel as they note that their plan is coming together flawlessly.

Memorable quotes

Champster: Hey, I'm proud of you, Gretta.
Gretta: Thanks, Champster. I can't believe I got all straight As... again!
Kevin: (chuckles) I guess they got that part wrong.
Gretel: Hey, I get As... sometimes.
Kevin: Come on, Li'l G. This could be my chance to finally make things right and give me the superpowers I was supposed to have all along!(beat)
Gretel: Kevin, I just realized how hard it must be for you to not have superpowers. You got completely passed over. I mean, I got superpowers and Hamster, who's literally a hamster, got superpowers, and you got nothing!
Kevin: Yeah, I know.
Gretel: You must be asking yourself, "What's wrong with me?"
Kevin: No, I-I-I get it.
Gretel: This has to be eating you alive every single day!
Kevin: Are you done?
Gretel: Okay, let's do this thing for you because you were totally ignored and―
Kevin: Just get on the bus.
Dave: A hundred and fifty feet of fiberglass heaven, and we can't go on it because our kids are out having fun somewhere!
Carolina: I have a plan. You go left, I'll go right; the one who survives gets to go on the fancy slide!
Dave: Wait, one of us doesn't survive?
Carolina: Do you want to ride the slide or not?
Kevin: What are you doing?
Hamster: Eating my feelings. Without her, I'm just Hamster and... nothing.
Kevin: And I guess I'm nothing.
Hamster: Not everything is about you, dude.
Kevin: Look, w-we just need a plan. The aliens burned a message in the ground. I-I took a pic. Maybe it can tell us something. "J3Hound+Sit." Maybe one of your superpowers can help us figure out what this means?
Hamster: I'm a talking hamster. Is that not enough for you?
Gretel: (After realizing she has no powers) Oh, no! I'm a Kevin!
Gretel: Dam!
Kevin: Gretel, language!
Gretel: No, we're gonna hit the dam!
Kevin: Driving things that are like my minivan. That's a superpower!
Gretel: No, Kevin. Being here when I need you. (holds his hand) That's your superpower.
Kevin: Aw, thanks.
Kevin: That must have been hard, not having your powers.
Gretel: Not as hard as it's been for you. I'm sorry I didn't get that before.
Kevin: It's okay. Being the big brother who saves the day is starting to feel pretty good.
Kevin: Seriously, Hamster, do you have to chew so loud?
Hamster: Again, talking hamster. Cut me some slack!

Background information

Trivia

  • Gretel, Hamster, and Kevin learn FistPuncher and The Destructress got their powers from the same aliens that gave Hamster and Gretel theirs, and were told to use their powers for evil instead.
  • Kevin's armor suit from "Cutie and the Beast" reappears.
  • This episode premiered on Disney Channel the same day as the Chibiverse episode "The Great Chibi Mix-Up!"

Allusions

  • The title of this episode is a pun on the acronym "U.F.O." (Unidentified Flying Object), a term commonly referring to extraterrestrial spaceships.
  • "Viva Las Vegas" - The song played in the beginning of the first episode sounds similar to Elvis Presley's song "Viva Las Vegas"
  • The Brady Bunch - During the song "She's An Only Child" the actor who is playing Gretel is seen sliding down a staircase that has a family pictured on it. This is a reference to the classic TV show photo of the Brady Bunch family posing on the stairs of their house.
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic - Wacko Wally is a parody of and is voiced by this American singer, songwriter, and actor.
  • Phineas and Ferb - A photo of Mitch the Alien from the show is seen behind Gretel while she is seated in Wacko Wally's van.
  • Kryptonite - The weird rock that FistPuncher and the Destructress found to take away Gretel's powers is similar to Kryptonite from DC Comics.
  • Iron-Man (MCU) - Hamster suiting up Kevin with the Armor Suit Guy armor suit is similar to Tony Stark's armor suit-ups in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Errors

ImBoredCutieAndTheBeastDGESynopses

The incorrect synopses of "I'm Bored" and "Cutie and the Beast" (with the former combining the synopses of the two episodes, and the latter having the premise of "U.F. UH-OH!" instead), as shown on the Disney General Entertainment Content press website.

ImBoredCutieAndTheBeastDisney+Synopses

The synopses of "I'm Bored", "Cutie and the Beast" and "U.F. UH-OH!" Parts I and II on Disney+, for comparison.

  • On the Disney General Entertainment Content press website, the synopsis for "U.F. UH-OH!" Parts I and II is accidentally applied as that of "Cutie and the Beast", while the synopsis for "Cutie and the Beast" has been accidentally merged with that of "I'm Bored". The erroneous synopses match precisely with the synopses for these episode pairs as they appear on Disney+, so it is likely that the error stems from the Disney+ synopses being copied and indiscriminately applied to "I'm Bored" and "Cutie and the Beast" separately (with the fact that the production code for "I'm Bored"/"Cutie and the Beast" is 109 and that of "U.F. UH-OH!" is 110 making this causation more likely).
    • This may also be the reason why "U.F. UH-OH!" Parts I and II aren't listed on the Disney General Entertainment Content press website, despite it being an important episode.
  • The actual U.F.O. of the aliens at the end of the episode is shown with the same design as the U.F.O. that FistPuncher and The Destructress found. While the aliens' actual U.F.O. has been shown with a green-glowing tractor beam hole on occasion, it had never been shown with eight circular light surrounding it before or since.
